He cited the need to protect national security and supply chains.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgdneo00093b6msf2zo8wi@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cWe are entitled to a proper review,\u201d Imai told journalists outside his home. \u201cThe review process to date and the US government\u2019s decision is not a very proper review. Our company cannot allow this to continue, so we are considering all options for future action.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgdneo000a3b6me1p4b8rm@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The deal has been politically charged since it was announced more than a year ago, stirring bipartisan political opposition to foreign control of a once key component of US industrial might.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgxi8j00003b6mvguh3ozn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The deal was not supported by the United Steelworkers (USW), the union representing American steel workers, which commended Biden\u2019s decision as the \u201cright move for our members and our national security.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgy2v900043b6m9v8pa6mn@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The USW said US Steel\u2019s recent financial performance showed it could \u201ceasily remain a strong and resilient company,\u201d<strong> <\/strong>USW International President David McCall said in a statement.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgy9w900073b6mjsrh5fzd@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            But some feared the failure of the deal could starve US Steel of the investment it says it needs, and may also scare away foreign investment in other US companies.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgdneo000c3b6m0xrohmya@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            David Burritt, president and CEO of US Steel, called Biden\u2019s decision \u201cshameful and corrupt.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgdneo000d3b6mmp62ax13@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            In late December, the Committee for Foreign Investment in the United States, known colloquially as CFIUS, notified Biden that it had not reached a consensus on whether the US Steel sale to Nippon would pose a national security risk, leaving the decision up to the president.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm5kgb45k00003b6mcq6lpp5j@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            US Steel and Nippon have argued throughout the process that the deal is necessary to provide needed investment in US Steel\u2019s domestic steel operations.
