After serving just one season as the team\u2019s full-time head coach, Antonio Pierce was fired Tuesday by the Las Vegas Raiders. <\/p>\n
Pierce was dismissed following the team\u2019s disappointing 4-win, 13-loss season. <\/p>\n
The 46-year-old compiled a 5-4 record as the Raiders\u2019 interim head coach during the 2023 campaign after Josh McDaniels was relieved of his duties. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe appreciate Antonio\u2019s leadership, first as an interim head coach and this past season as the head coach,\u201d the Raiders said in a statement. <\/p>\n
\u201cAntonio grew up a Raiders fan and his Silver and Black roots run deep. We are grateful for his ability to reignite what it means to be a Raider throughout the entire organization. We wish nothing but the best for Antonio and his family in the future.\u201d <\/p>\n
On Monday, Pierce held a press conference and implied he hadn\u2019t spoken to team owner Mark Davis about his status with the franchise. <\/p>\n
When asked if he wanted clarity about next season, Pierce said the noise around his future was \u201conly coming from the outside.\u201d He said, \u201cIt\u2019s not inside the building. To me, there\u2019s nothing to clean up until I hear from inside the building.\u201d <\/p>\n
Pierce said he knew how the business worked: win, and people love you \u2013 lose, and it\u2019s time to move on. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you take this job and when you\u2019re in front of this room, in front of the building, in front of the organization, the face of the organization, you take the good with the bad, right? <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd when we win, everybody\u2019s like, \u2018AP! AP! AP\u2019. And when you lose – get rid of his a**. <\/p>\n
\u201cI get it. I get it. That\u2019s the nature of the beast. It\u2019s no different when I played. When you play well, they keep you and then they give you more money. If you don\u2019t, you go to another team,\u201d Pierce said Monday. <\/p>\n
A nine-year NFL veteran player, Pierce won Super Bowl XLII with the New York Giants in 2008. <\/p>\n
The Silver and Black have played in just two playoff games in the last 22 seasons. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
