There are now around 400 Kenyan police in the country, many from specialized units.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm0beq2lh000w3b6kwx66gjpc@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            In an August 25 statement acknowledging delays to payments, the MSS announced that officers could expect the missing funds to hit their bank accounts this week.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm0beqw95000y3b6kyu3zkcx2@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cTherefore, there is nothing to worry about&nbsp;(regarding)&nbsp;welfare issues of the MSS officers, since mainstream&nbsp;processes have been finalized,\u201d the MSS added.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm0ber7m800103b6k7bllc301@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            In a \u201cprogress report\u201d released Monday, Kenya\u2019s National Police Service (NPS) said that the officers were continuing \u201cto&nbsp;draw their NPS salaries\u201d&nbsp;while waiting for the supplemental pay for their MSS duties.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm0beug4r00123b6kt5px6uhh@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Kenyan officers had expected to be paid a significant supplement&nbsp;for their Haiti deployment \u2013 a grueling assignment more typical of a military than of a police force. Officers are not allowed to leave their base in the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince during non-working hours.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm0bewj0w001a3b6kk9czxvjf@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The MSS force is expected to ultimately grow to 2,500, with more troops&nbsp;expected&nbsp;from Jamaica, Benin, Chad, the Bahamas, Bangladesh, Barbados and Belize. The&nbsp;force is hoped to bolster the Haitian National Police\u2019s battles against&nbsp;an alliance of gangs&nbsp;that controls an estimated 85% of the Port-au-Prince metropolitan area.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph-primary-core-light\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm0bexox2001c3b6k5qol0tsx@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The MSS is financed through a UN-managed&nbsp;trust fund, to which the US, Canada, France and Spain have contributed millions of dollars.
