He said he would remain in office until January 15 and attempt to get the most important legislation done, suggesting he would talk to opposition leader Friedrich Merz\u2019 of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) to pass legislation relating to the economy and defense. \u201cThe economy cannot wait until after the elections,\u201d Scholz said.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36exo3z000u3b5v7mid9kd5@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The so-called \u201ctraffic light crisis,\u201d as it is known locally in reference to the the colors of the governing coalition, was triggered by competing views on the future of Germany\u2019s economy among the three partners.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36e24sr00083b5vukauuu5k@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Prior to his firing, Lindner had triggered days of wrangling with the publication of an 18-page economic paper published last week, entitled \u201cGermany\u2019s economic turnaround.\u201d It had been described in German media as the coalition\u2019s divorce papers, as its tone and contents appear distinctly at odds with the positions of his government partners.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36ekdn2000o3b5vowyylact@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            In the detailed document, which advocates for tax cuts, Lindner said \u201can economic turnaround with a partly fundamental revision of key political decisions is necessary in order to avert damage to Germany as a business location.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36eyhtu000x3b5vvee2qiik@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Aside from the divides it reveals with his coalition partners, cynics are also suggesting that Lindner\u2019s paper looks like a campaign manifesto. Before Wednesday\u2019s developments, Germany\u2019s next scheduled elections were due to take place in September 2025.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36f0a8u00103b5vasqfw2se@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The last time Germany had snap elections was in 2005, when they were called by Chancellor Gerhard Schroder, who subsequently lost to Angela Merkel.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36cbffb000z3b6mng51h4rr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Scholz told the press conference Wednesday that \u201cLindner showed no willingness to implement any of our proposals\u201d and, therefore, \u201cthere is no trust basis for any future cooperation\u201d with the outgoing finance minister.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36ce4y7001g3b6m6d9fo8ia@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The Chancellor also accused the finance minister of being \u201cnot about serving the common good but about serving his own clientele and party.\u201d    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36ce6r0001i3b6mxf1rg40t@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            According to Scholz, Lindner will also be dismissed by the country\u2019s President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36d6y7b00073j6mzcpnsj94@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Speaking to reporters later Wednesday, Lindner said he had \u201crecommended early elections as a solution to the budget impasse\u201d \u2013 a proposal he said Scholz rejected.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36dnzg6000e3j6mn6hqiowr@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            Lindner also accused Scholz of having asked him to pause the \u201cdebt brake\u201d \u2013 a constitutional article that prevents the government from borrowing excessively and amassing debt \u2013 something Lindner said he was not willing to do.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36ce8e5001k3b6me00ifmn6@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cAfter the US elections we need to show we can be relied on,\u201d Scholz said, adding that \u201cgreat financial room for maneuver\u201d is needed given the challenges that Germany faces.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36bbrkt00003j6mcdirq9of@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            The news has been welcomed by far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.    <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph inline-placeholder vossi-paragraph\" data-uri=\"cms.cnn.com\/_components\/paragraph\/instances\/cm36ej8g7000l3b5vbczwgkwy@published\" data-editable=\"text\" data-component-name=\"paragraph\" data-article-gutter=\"true\">            \u201cThe end of the traffic light coalition is a liberation for our country.
